A Busy Schedule and Your Health
Monday, 09. 28. 2009 – Category: Heart Health
I know what it means to be “a little busy.” In fact, I’m sure “hectic” ought to be my middle name. It’s not, though. In fact, my middle name is Marie. Anyways, back to the subject…
Being busy can really throw a wrench in your health planning. Your exercise schedule and your diet can all get tossed off balance, and that’s never good. Well, there are always ways to work more exercise and healthy foods into your day. I’m getting to be a pro at these sort of things.
Instead of coffee, soda, or energy drinks, reach for a (healthy) fruit smoothie. More and more places like this are popping up. I’ll admit, smoothies can be a bit pricey, but most authentic smoothie joints use real fruit and natural ingredients. You can get yogurt-based and fruit-based alternatives that offer plenty of good energy, instead of a horrible sugar rush followed by a nasty crash. Be sure that your smoothie doesn’t have sugar added.
Try to avoid driving if you know you can walk the distance. Walking is better exercise than most people realize. Recently, I’ve moved to a location where most of my transit is on foot. My calves are already getting pretty toned! Granted, my legs were pretty sore for the first few days (especially since there are plenty of hills around here) but overall, I’m feeling even better. At least I know that even if I can’t get to the gym, I’m getting at least some exercise!
Snack bars and trail mixes can be your friends…if they’re the right kind. This is an important thing to be careful with! Most people don’t realize how much sugar is added to a lot of bars or trail mixes, or how fatty they can be. Be sure to read labels and do your research before you start using these to beat your afternoon slump.
I know this isn’t the best post I’ve had, nor is it the longest. HOWEVER, there’s a reason this post is themed about busy health habits: I’m very, very busy nowdays! With that mind, I wish you the best of health. Gotta run!
